The Holy Trinity
From the beginning, the revealed truth of the Holy Trinity has been at the very root of the Church’s living faith, principally by means of Baptism. (CCC 249) The Trinity is One. The divine persons do not share the one divinity among themselves but each of them is God whole and entire: “The Father is that which the Son is, the Son that which the Father is, the Father and Son that which the Holy Spirit is, i.e., by nature one God.”1 (CCC 253)

Original Sin
God created man in his image and established him in his friendship. A spiritual creature, man can live his friendship only in free submission to God. Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart and, abusing his freedom, disobeyed God’s command. (CCC397) In that sin man preferred himself to God and by that very act scorned him. (CCC398) Seduced by the devil, he wanted to “be like God,” but “without God, before God, and not in accordance with God.”2. Death makes its entrance into human history.3
